During a trip through British Columbia and the Yukon, I painted this little cabin vista, which was inspired by a magical spot near Vine Lake in BC, in the shadow of Needlepoint Mountain. The lovely lady who had built the cabin herself welcomed us with classic Canadian warmth in spite of the fact that we were lost and had stumbled upon her cabin by happy accident. She gave us a tour of her magical off-grid home, and then took us down to the lake, where she insisted we stretched out our backs by taking her canoe out for a peaceful paddle in the brilliant British Columbian summer sunlight. The kindness and goodness of strangers, and the open-hearted hospitality of those who live in the remote north, will never cease to amaze me.
