Caribou range across the tundra, alpine, and forested zones throughout the entire northern hemisphere. These sleepy-seeming, cloven-hooved critters all grow antlers - males and females alike - endure the harshest climates, and have provided companionship and subsistence to arctic and subarctic cultures for millennia…they may in fact have brought the first people across the Bering Land Bridge to what is modern-day Alaska. Moonrise Caribou is a work in tribute to these resilient, beautiful creatures that have struggled with population dynamics as the climate of the far north has destabilized due to rapid climate change in the last century.
