I painted “Abundance” from a concept my friend, Deenaalee Hodgdon and I had long been discussing. Deenaalee is Deg Xit’an Athabaskan and Supiaq from the villages of Gitr’ingithchagg (Anvik) and Qinuyang (South Naknek), Alaska, and is the creator behind On the Land, a podcast centered on Indigenous Voices and relationships to the land. Abundance is a celebration of our love of paddling powerful rivers, the feeling of protected by immense mountains. Of the joy of berry picking, being gifted with a caribou, or of eating salmon we took from the river or ocean with our own hands. Check out Deenaalee’s podcast here.
